Nite Owl League Information

Nite Owl consists of 15 targets arranged on a course throughout Flood City Bowmen’s lower wooded lot. Targets are set up at marked distances ranging from as close as 7 yards to as far as 65 yards. That’s right, target distance is marked. No yardage estimation in this game. If you’ve never shot a distance like 65 yards, don’t worry. New league shooters soon discover it isn’t as tough as it sounds. When you think about it, shooting form is exactly the same no matter how far the target. Plus, club members can practice out to 80 yards any time they want, either on the Nite Owl course or FCB’s outdoor range. Once you’ve shot 80 yards for a while, shorter distances will never intimidate you again!

Overview

A pair of archers shoots four arrows each from each station then moves on to the next target. Each arrow scores 5, 4, 3, or 0 points, for a total possible score of 20 at each target. A perfect score is 300. Target faces are standard NFAA style field archery spots, size depending on distance. Shooter handicap is added to each archer’s final score before becoming part of the overall team score. Your handicap will be 80% of the difference between your average score and a perfect 300. In this way, archers of all levels can compete. All you have to do to keep your team in the running is shoot your average. Whether that’s nearly perfect or a beginner’s score makes no difference to the team result. And that’s the great part about Nite Owl! No pressure to be Superman, just be yourself.

Your score becomes part of your overall team score. Each night, teams score two points for a win, one point for a tie, and no points for a loss. At the end of the season, the winning team gets a plaque on the wall in the clubhouse with team members listed. Additionally, each shooter on the winning team receives a plaque to proudly take home.

Nite Owl league is held weekly, on Tuesday evenings, starting at 7:30 PM. While there may be daylight when shooting begins, it is soon dark and you’ll be shooting under light.  Nite Owl league is held from May to early September. Each shoot takes about 2 hours.

Yes, we shoot at night, but you won’t be in the spotlight. Nite Owl is a team sport. Depending on total number of shooters joining the league, several teams are selected. Persons are chosen for teams based upon their Nite Owl average score in a way that provides balanced team scores. Your shooting partner for each evening may or may not be on your team.
